Statutory Assessments
Understanding Statutory Assessments in Primary School
On this page, you’ll find all the key information and guidance to help you understand what each assessment involves and how it supports your child’s educational journey.
Throughout your child’s time in primary school, they will take part in several statutory assessments designed to support their learning and track progress.
These include the Reception Baseline Assessment, the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile, the Phonics Screening Check, the Multiplication Tables Check, and Key Stage 2 national curriculum tests (SATs).
Below is the link to DfE Parent Guides with more information regarding each of the assessments:

Pupils Working Below the Standard of the Assessment
For pupils who are working below the standard of the national curriculum tests, teachers will use alternative assessments such as the pre-key stage standards or the engagement model, depending on the child’s level of learning and engagement.
If your child is struggling, please be assured that their progress will still be carefully monitored and supported through teacher assessment and tailored learning plans.
We encourage parents to speak with their child’s teacher to understand how best to support learning at home and to stay informed about their child’s development.
