Uniform and Being Prepared
At West Park, our school uniform helps to create a strong sense of belonging, community and pride. It ensures that pupils are dressed comfortably and appropriately for learning while promoting fairness and consistency across the school.
We are committed to keeping our uniform simple, practical and affordable. Each child is required to have one royal blue sweatshirt or cardigan displaying the West Park logo and one PE hoodie displaying the West Park logo. All other uniform and PE items can be plain, unbranded items purchased from supermarkets, high-street shops or any retailer of your choice.

Our policy is designed to reflect Department for Education expectations on affordability. We require only two branded items: one West Park logoed sweatshirt or cardigan and one West Park logoed PE hoodie. All other uniform and PE items can be generic and may be purchased from any retailer. |
Our school uniform

School logo items
To support a shared sense of identity and belonging, each child must have one royal blue sweatshirt or cardigan displaying the West Park logo and one PE hoodie displaying the West Park logo. No other items are required to carry the school logo.
Additional sweatshirts or cardigans may be plain royal blue, and all polo shirts, trousers, skirts, summer uniform and other PE items can be unbranded. These items are widely available from local supermarkets and other retailers, helping families to keep the cost of uniforms manageable.

PE kit
Children may attend school wearing their PE kit on their designated PE days. Each child must have one PE hoodie displaying the West Park logo. PE T-shirts, shorts, jogging bottoms and all other PE items do not need to display the school logo.

Swimming kit
Swimming forms part of the statutory PE curriculum for Key Stage Two pupils. When your child’s class is attending swimming lessons, they will need to bring the items below in a small, clearly named drawstring bag.

Jewellery and earrings
Children should not wear jewellery to school. Jewellery can become caught on clothing, play equipment or resources and may cause an injury to the child or another pupil. It can also be easily damaged or lost during a busy school day.
Simple analogue or digital watches without camera, recording, calling, messaging, internet or location-sharing functions may be worn. They must be removed for PE and swimming. Children are responsible for keeping permitted watches safe, and the school cannot accept responsibility if they are lost or damaged.
| Earrings: an important safety reminder
Where earrings need to remain in temporarily to prevent a piercing from closing, children should wear either clear plastic studs or one small, plain, round stud in each ear. Earrings must not be hoops, dangling styles or large decorative studs. |
All earrings, including clear plastic studs and small round studs, must be removed for PE and swimming. School staff are not permitted to remove or replace earrings for children, so your child must be able to do this independently.
If earrings cannot be removed, your child will not be able to participate in PE or swimming. We therefore recommend arranging new piercings at the beginning of the summer holiday so that they have time to heal before children return to school.
Hair, make-up and nails
Children should not wear make-up to school. False or acrylic nails are not permitted. Hair accessories should be simple and in school colours. Long hair must be tied back securely for all physical activities, including PE and swimming.
Smart watches and mobile phones
Smart watches and other wearable devices with camera, recording, calling, messaging, internet or location-sharing functions are not permitted in school. These features can create safeguarding and privacy concerns and may also distract children from their learning.
Mobile phones are strongly discouraged. Where a phone is essential because a pupil in Year 5 or Year 6 walks to or from school independently, it must be brought in accordance with the school’s Mobile Phone Policy. Phones must be switched off before entering the school grounds, stored as required by the policy and must not be used anywhere on the school site. Families should contact the school office if an urgent message needs to reach a child during the school day.
| Items that are not permitted in school
Any item that is not permitted, including a smart watch or a mobile phone being used contrary to the school policy, will be removed from the pupil and taken to the school office. It will be returned only to a parent, carer or nominated adult who collects it from the office at the end of the school day. It will not be returned directly to the pupil. |
Fairness and consistency
We ask all families to support our uniform expectations. A consistent approach helps children understand what is expected and ensures that the same standards apply fairly to everyone across the school.
Children who are not wearing the correct uniform will receive a quiet and respectful reminder. Where incorrect uniform becomes a regular occurrence, the class teacher will send a message home so that we can understand whether support is needed and work together to resolve the issue.

What does my child need each day?
School provides children with all of the stationery and learning resources they need. To reduce distractions and prevent valued belongings from being lost or damaged, please do not send children into school with unnecessary items from home.

Your child’s school reading book is the only learning materials they need to bring between home and school each day.
School bags and cloakroom space
Children do not need a large school bag or rucksack each day. Our cloakrooms are busy, storage space is limited and large bags can make it difficult for children to access their belongings safely.
Where a bag is needed, please choose a small book bag or compact school bag. Bringing fewer items into school also reduces the likelihood of belongings becoming mixed up, damaged or lost.
Naming belongings
Please clearly label all clothing, coats, shoes, PE items, water bottles, lunch boxes and bags with your child’s full name. Named items can usually be returned quickly.
Unfortunately, the school cannot accept responsibility for clothing or personal belongings that are lost or damaged. If your child has misplaced something, please speak to their class teacher in the first instance. We will always do our best to help locate it.
